In my latest review, I finally sat down to share my initial impressions of the Bread & Butter Loco pickleball paddle, and I’ve got to say—the time has come to see if this thing lives up to the hype. I’ve been testing the 16mm Hybrid version, and while I’m still early in the process, my first takeaway is that this is undeniably a top-tier piece of equipment. It brings a formidable combination of pop, power, and control to the court that immediately sets it apart.
One of the most frequent questions I get is how it compares to the Vatic Pro series. In my experience, the Loco offers significantly more pop and power than the Vatics. Because of that extra “oomph,” I’d actually caution beginners. Unless you’re just looking to have a blast whacking balls around like crazy, the Loco might be a bit of a struggle to tame early on. However, if you hit that sweet spot, the payoff is incredible. There is a specific, satisfying sound this paddle makes when you rip a ball that is just pure music to my ears.
Beyond the sound, the “feel” is what really matters to me. I’m looking for a paddle that provides clear feedback without feeling stiff or wooden. The Loco delivers exactly that; it feels responsive and communicative, giving me the touch I need to feel connected to the ball. That said, it hasn’t been a perfect transition just yet. I’m currently about four hours into playing with it, and I’m definitely still in the adjustment phase. I’ve found myself hitting some balls out and popping my resets and dinks a little too high.
This leads to a big question: is it possible to have “too much of a good thing”? I love the power, but I’m still weighing whether it fits my specific style of play or if it’s a bit too much to control consistently. To find out, I’m putting it through the ultimate test in my advanced league play to see if it can officially replace my Vatic as my main paddle.

Final Thoughts
Technical specs aside, I have to give a huge shout-out to Bread & Butter as a brand. They’ve done an amazing job creating a unique vibe and a community that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s refreshing in a sport that can sometimes get a bit too intense. For the amateur or recreational player who just wants to get out there, have a great time, and play some fun pickleball, the Loco is an outstanding option.
